oh horse pucky!
It almost caused 2 head-on accidents on the trail this morning. I’m not dissin horse folks, nor horses, they are beautiful creatures, but my personal belief is that the horse riders should be held to the same standards as dog owners, (Pick up your SH!T). If your horse drops its load in the road, scoop it up and dispose of it properly, please. Yes, I know that means you’ll need to carry Hefty Garbage bags with you, but it could be worse.
Or, is there something that the horses could wear to catch the droppings? Those things are mountains!
Or, possibly “sense” when your horse is about to drop its load in the road and take them off the trail a few feet don’t let them swerve across the entire trail so their mountains cross the entire trail…
Or, have someone follow you with a garbage pail and shovel like in parades.
Please, by no means am I saying “ALL” horse riders/owners are irresponsible by letting their horses do their bidness on the trail. I’m sure there are many more responsible riders than irresponsible ones, but its just like anything else, one “bad rider” gives most riders a bad name.
When the trail gets crowded with walkers, runners, bikes, and rollerbladers and 4 of us all meet at the most inconvenient place (where there is a horse mountain in the middle of the trail) all it takes is 1 of us not paying attention to cause a seriously ugly accident, and it almost happened twice this morning.
OK, besides horse pucky, it was a seriously good ride. I really enjoy seeing “the mountain”, (for those of you not from around here, we refer to Mt Rainier as “the mountain” not the mountain of horse pucky), before most people are even awake or at least sipping on the morning jolt. Eagles soaring, hot air balloons flying, and the mountain is out. How could this NOT be a good day.

I completely sympathize with your predicament; all users of a common trails should be familiar with the trails etiquette. No one person, or animal, should have dumping privileges.

Amen! It’s called common courtesy and they need to put themselves in all the other peoples shoes. I strongly believe that they wouldn’t appreciate it either!!

I was thinking about that just this weekend! Not all etiquette is observed unfortunately. Like the mtb’ers that are looking to maintain their speed, zooming in and out of groups of runners/walkers…sometimes I feel like throwing an elbow…
Did I just say that?

It’s humorous (since no one got hurt, well, not that we know of anyway) as a story, but you are totally right…common courtesy unfortunately is not so common these days.

LOL! I’m laughing because, as a horse owner, I don’t mind stepping in horse puckey. In fact, it would be hard for me to not step in it. But, there are horse owners (myself included) who do dismount and kick the piles off the trails. You just don’t see those piles…
