Thursdays with Mitch

Our swim can be found on Mitch’s blog.
My time trial for 500 was 9:07 = 1:49/100yd*. (* = used pull buoy). Felt really good this morning, except when I kick…I don’t kick, so when the workout calls for “swimming” it’s actually hard for me, (I usually use a pull buoy, which means I don’t kick, legs just float). And then, to top it all off, the workout called for “Kick 100 no board”…which, we changed up to “kick 50 with board”. I think I need to work up to kicking without pulling and not using a kick board.

Total time of workout was about 45 minutes, but that includes “rests” and “read” time.

For my last swim of the year, it felt pretty good.

Reach and Roll workout

the 1800 yrd reach and roll workout I posted awhile back, (if I can find it, I’ll post it up again). Then I decided to run through the first 1000 of it again just for fun.

The pool was actually quite crowded.  Mitch had the “brilliant” idea of getting there at doors open, which I responded to with a “I might be a little late”…(which, of course I wasn’t), but he was the first in the pool, getting us a lane, thankfully, as the pool filled up quite quick after that.

Had a few 100’s in the 1:35-1:40 range, which feels really good.  smooth and long glides.

Now its off to wake the fam and get the little one on the bus.  What a great way to start the day!

Fridays with Pool

Mitch and I did the glide swim again. (Thanks again D…I think its my favorite so far)!

Warm Up:
400 yrd, 100 meter total of no free

Main Set:
6 x 50 Kick w/ 15 sec rest after each 50
- 2×50 Front w/glide
- 2×50 left side
- 2×50 right side
6 x 50 pull w/ 15 sec rest after each 50
6 x 50 stroke w/ 15 sec rest after each 50
- 2×50 2 sec hesitation
- 2×50 finger drag
- 2×50 catch up

Cool Down:
1 x 200

Then did another 600 just for fun, because I can. These were 1 x 100’s at 1:40 (max) with 30 seconds in between.

It really is more fun with a structured workout and friends to “play” with. I’m glad Mitch convinced Shelley that the pool is actually a good thing. Maybe she’ll believe us.

I think I could have swam to the Y there’s so much rain here right now. Might also be the reason why the Y has been so packed lately. Just yardage today, no structured workout.

Thanks D for this Glide workout!  I put Mitch and Shelley through the trenches with it!

400 yrd warm up, 100 meter total of no free

6 x 50 Kick w/ 15 sec rest after each 50

  • 2×50 right side

6 x 50 pull w/ 15 sec rest after each 50

200 cool down. (I added an additional 50 just for fun).

The nice thing about this workout is that it truly is about the glide.  During my cool down I could really tell I was reaching and smooth.

Lunch time swim

Woke up way late this morning so I decided I’d just come into work, and then sweat later. Got to the Y fully prepared to either swim, (my first choice), or stride…It just so happened that when I arrived there was a lane open, so I decided I’d swim…However, by the time I arrived at that lane. all suited up and ready to go, it had someone in it. Oh well. So, I joined them for about 10 minutes before another lane opened up and I had a lane to myself.
Quite the diverse group of folks using the pool at 11:30 in the am…Cotton tops bobbing up and down doing water aerobics, and diapers bobbing up and down learning how to swim…and a couple lanes open swim lap swim. I think I’ll do my best to get my laps in early in the morning from here on out. Thank goodness for ear plugs, it was quite loud.
All in all a good day though.
